Cornelius Specialties has operated in this sector for more than 30 years in effect, as it represented Rohm GmbH with Hema 99% in the 1970s as the contact lens industry first began to develop.

Seeing the need to offer more products than just Hema, Cornelius Specialties was born from a market need for raw materials in the UK and elsewhere. Cornelius Specialties became the only manufacturer of methacrylate monomers to specifically target the contact lens market when it built its first manufacturing plant in 1999.

From 1999 the range has expanded and the capacity has continually expanded, culminating in 2007 with the acquisition of a purpose built site in Haverhill. This is now our centre of excellence for the contact lens raw materials.

Specialising in gas permeable additives, Cornelius Specialties is the largest independent producer of specialist contact lens materials in the world.
